About this guide
Record more than a name. Capture place, weather, shape, sound and behaviour with guided pages that help every sighting teach you something.
A list of bird names can tell you what you saw, but it rarely preserves the experience — or helps you remember how you reached an identification.
Notes from the Flyway is a guided digital field journal built around observation. Structured records prompt you to note time, place, weather, habitat, size, shape, field marks, behaviour and sound. Sketch spaces, confidence scales and monthly reviews help you recognise patterns without demanding artistic skill or perfect certainty.
Use the journal digitally, or print selected templates for personal field use. Over time, the pages become a record not only of birds, but of how your attention has grown.

Written for adult beginners
New and returning birdwatchers who want a structured record that develops observation skills instead of providing blank pages alone.
Orvelantia teaches transferable observation and identification methods rather than a regional species list. Use a reliable current field guide for the region in which you are watching.
What you receiveDigital PDF ebook files. No physical book, binoculars, journal or equipment is shipped. You may print selected pages for your own personal use.
Responsible birdwatchingObserve wildlife from a respectful distance. Do not disturb nests, chicks, feeding birds or sensitive habitat. Before you buy
Are these printed books?
No. Every Orvelantia product is a digital ebook supplied in PDF format. Nothing physical will be shipped.
Do I need to be able to draw?
No. The sketch spaces are for memory rather than artistic perfection, and every page works just as well with words alone.
Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
Yes. Open Sky Birding starts from the first outing, and the remaining guides introduce behaviour, identification and journalling progressively.
Are these guides specific to one country?
No. Orvelantia teaches transferable observation and identification methods. Use a reliable current field guide or identification resource for the region in which you are watching.
Will Field Marks First identify every bird for me?
No. It teaches a structured method for narrowing down possibilities. Lighting, distance, season and location can affect identification, and uncertainty is a normal part of birdwatching.
Can I print the journal pages?
Yes. You may print selected pages for your own personal use. The files may not be copied, resold, shared or redistributed.
Can children use these ebooks?
The guides are written primarily for adult beginners. Younger readers may use them with appropriate adult support during outdoor activities.
Can I buy the guides separately?
Yes. Open Sky Birding costs £14.99, The Bird in Motion £16.99, Field Marks First £17.99 and Notes from the Flyway £14.99. The complete Orvelantia Birdwatching Library costs £52.99.
